RIP Dixie Carter

Dixie Carter, best known for her role as Julia Sugarbaker on Designing Women, has died. She was 70-years-old.

Carter had been on television screens since (at least) the 70s, when she had a role on the short-lived series On Our Own. Since then, Carter had roles in various other shows – including Diff’rent Strokes, until she finally got her break in Designing Women. Most recently, people may remember her as playing Orson’s messed up mother, Gloria Hodge, on Desperate Housewives.

Below I have put some clips of her famous portrayal as Julia. RIP Dixie.

  1. Rangeley man says:

Was she married to Hal Holbrooke? And secondly, is he still with us? What do you think were his best roles? He was great as Mark Twain in that one-man show that might still be going … Woody Harrelson did a bit on that (Twain) in a Cheers episode.
